About us

Fifty years of connecting the Border

We began in 1976 as the Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau. Today, as Border Community Resource Centre, we connect people with volunteering, support new arrivals to settle, and teach practical skills for work and life.

Our mission: working to relieve poverty through social inclusion and education.

We are a small, local, not-for-profit organisation governed by a volunteer Committee of Management and staffed by people who mostly grew up here or chose here. We are not a branch of anything. Decisions about the Border are made on the Border.

Our name changed in 2026 because our work had outgrown the old one. Volunteering remains the heart of what we do, and settlement support, community programs and training have grown around it.

What we do

  • Match volunteers with local organisations, 106 referrals in the last year
  • Support 65 local volunteer-involving organisations
  • Walk alongside new arrivals through settlement casework and community programs
  • Run free and low-cost training for work, volunteering and everyday life
  • Visit older people through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme
